Free walking tours of Thessaloniki's markets, western neighborhoods and Upper Town

The Municipality of Thessaloniki's First, Second and Third Municipal Communities are organizing three walking tours on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 10:30. Participation is free, with advance registration required and places limited.

The tours will be led by licensed guides and will last around three hours. The three routes highlight the history of the city center's markets, historic landmarks in the western neighborhoods and monuments in the Upper Town.

The First Municipal Community's route, on the theme of “Thessaloniki's markets through the ages,” starts at the Roman Agora, at the beginning of the pedestrian street. It includes, among other sites, Bit Bazaar, the antiquities at Venizelou Metro station, the Bezesteni, Kapani and Modiano Market. Registration is exclusively by telephone on 2313318510, on October 12 and 13, from 10:30 to 12:00, with a full name and mobile phone number required. There are 25 places available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Second Municipal Community's tour meets at the Church of the Holy Apostles and includes Ivanov Park, the Park of Nations, the western city walls, the Statue of Constantine, Vardari Fortress and Villa Petridi. Registration is by telephone on 2313318553, from October 12 to 16, from 09:00 to 14:00, with a full name, phone number and email address required. There are 30 places available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Third Municipal Community's route starts at the entrance to the Heptapyrgion (Yedi Kule) and passes, among other sites, the Gate of Anna Palaiologina, Vlatadon Monastery, the Church of Hosios David, Alatza Imaret and the Church of Saint Demetrios. Registration is by telephone on 2313318275 from 09:00 on October 12 until all 35 places are filled, with a full name and phone number required and places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. For the First and Third Communities' routes, updates will be posted online if the tours are postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
